Make your coaching a priority and escape to get the real work done
Whether you want a life changing trip to the Himalayas or a quiet place to escape and work on yourself, a coaching retreat can give you the reset you need to begin again, stronger
Himalayan Village Retreat
Your life will never be the same again. This trip of a lifetime is offered exclusively to my clients. Once a year we travel out to India and spend 10 incredible days together in a little village nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Set up in a comfortable nearby hotel, we visit the village every day, spending time doing activities with its Tibetan Buddhist people. I first went there to teach when I was only 18 years old and I consider these people my second family. They took care of me like I was their own. Seventeen years and almost as many trips later I've built up powerful relationships that I like to share with my clients. This transformative experience will change your perspective on life forever.
We begin each day with a mindfulness walk through the surrounding lush forests before eating breakfast with the locals. Some days are spent visiting schools, monasteries, orphanages or tradespeople. Other days are more adventurous and involve visiting remote mountain villages, swimming in the crystal blue source rivers of the Ganges or participating in a local wedding or festival. Every person you meet along the way has a different story of how they live their life. They're very open about their own search for happiness, either through Buddhism or Hinduism. Each day we will also be learning how to cook, eat and laugh in the houses of my life-long local friends.
English Farmhouse Retreat
With phones off each day from nine in the morning until five in the evening, it's time to go to work on ourselves. Each day, from Monday to Friday, we explore a different theme in our own personal development. The beginning of the week is all about getting real about ourselves and shining a light on the areas in our life that are currently holding us back. As the week progresses, we develop individual action plans to put in place, ready and waiting for the moment we go back into our normal routine. These involve strategies and back-up strategies, and considering problems from every angle, ensuring changes in your life back home are guaranteed. This retreat is about putting in the time to work on yourself, but also lavishing yourself with high levels of self-care, with time in the pool, sauna, yoga, massage, along with music and dancing in the evening.
Scottish Highland - Back-To-Basics Long Weekend
Get off grid and immerse yourself in a small back-to-basics community right by the sea. This trip is all about discovering how to live at a slower mental pace and learning that we don't actually need a lot of stuff to make us happy. To get to this community you have to cross the sea loch by the post boat or walk the Lord of the Rings-style path through the lush green mountains. Once there, you'll meet the eccentric locals who will teach you all about the way they live their lives using yellow water streams and electricity-generating windmills. Like the English Farmhouse retreat, this trip also involves time and support to go to work on what's getting in the way of change in your life. Everyone on this trip leaves with a detailed action plan so that life doesn't just go back to how it was before.
Himalayan Writer's Retreat
No excuses, no distractions, get that novel or screenplay written! Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, but only 30 minutes from the state capital and all the modern amenities a westerner could need, lies the retreat centre, Tarab Ling (please see the photos on my India 2018 page). This is where you, away from all the distractions and excuses of your daily life, will complete that project once and for all. If you're starting out from scratch, we will do a thorough analysis of your idea, complete with honest feedback from fellow writers. Together, we'll build a comprehensive strategy for getting you over the finish line. Having a coach to help you do this, and then keep you accountable with mini writing deadlines along the way, can make all the difference.
That said, if you're a writer who just wants somewhere to escape and work, all this support available is just optional. Writers of all ages come here, taking anything from a few weeks to a few months off from their daily lives to get the thing done. As you will see from the pictures on my India 2018 page, the environment is quiet, secluded and completely safe. For those of you who want to unwind in the evening and go for a beer in the city, you're only a cheap taxi ride away. All your meals are made on site with fresh ingredients, and the dining room is a great way to bounce ideas around with your fellow writers.
Volunteer Teaching In Northern India
Give something back and change the way you see the world for the rest of your life. My 15 years of working with schools in the area (where I myself taught) means there are a number of opportunities for people of all ages to volunteer. Everything is organised for you and there's the option to work in local schools, monastaries or orphanages - usually for around three to six months. Volunteers stay with a sponsor family nearby, or on the school site with other teachers, where all meals and needs are taken care of, as thanks for the work you're doing in the community. Depending on your age, volunteers can be placed in pairs or groups and both in-country and Skype support is also provided.
